It moves quietly and precisely through complex terrain without the need for boundary wire, is equipped with innovative features, and has a user-friendly app for setting off-limit zones.
Segway, which has so far been known for its micromobility solutions (including electric scooters), is entering the outdoor market for the first time with the robotic lawnmower Navimow, hoping to gain a foothold with the innovative robot. Segway Navimow was presented and announced last fall, and now the first units are on their way to Europe. In Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, they are expected to be available in early June.
Denmark, May 2022, Segway is revolutionizing the market for robotic lawnmowers. While most commercially available units today only work with customized boundary wire, Segway's Navimow promises a perfectly mowed lawn without boundary wire. Supplemented with the iF Gold Award-winning app, achieving the best possible lawn care becomes a breeze.
User-friendly app
In addition to the powerful design, Navimow comes with a specially designed app that makes the work even easier for you.
It has a simplified interface that makes it easy to make settings, create maps, and manage schedules, etc. If you change the appearance of the garden, e.g., create new flower beds, you can easily and conveniently create off-limit zones via the app, which Navimow will not cross.
Earlier this year, the app stood out from over 10,000 products/projects and received the iF Gold Award with the following justification: "The focus is on user experience in all processes from settings to guidance and control. This is the right way to make technology fun and accessible."
Virtual zones, real efficiency
The Exact Fusion Locating System (EFLS), fusion localization technology, helps Navimow achieve the highest possible positioning accuracy. "The core of this technology is the use of GNSS satellite signals to achieve centimeter-level positioning accuracy through real-time kinematics," explains George Ren, General Manager at Segway BU. A map in the app can be used to define precise zones and boundaries – e.g., where Navimow should mow the grass, where the boundaries are, and which zones in the garden it should avoid. "Once the work area in the garden is defined, Navimow does not run randomly but instead follows a systematic mowing pattern thanks to its intelligent navigation algorithm," points out George Ren.
Intelligence in everyday life
In the field of robotic lawnmowers, Segway has identified potential for improvement regarding user experience and intends to take the robotic lawnmower industry to the next level. Navimow, which is extremely quiet (54 dB(A)), automatically detects obstacles such as pots and avoids them. It mows the grass systematically rather than randomly, increasing efficiency and ensuring a perfectly maintained and mowed lawn. With its five-centimeter-thick all-terrain rubber wheels, Navimow easily handles slopes of up to 45%, and with an IPX6 rating, it easily handles precipitation, heavy sprays, and high-pressure jets.
Checklist for optimal user experience
Before purchasing Navimow, Segway strongly recommends answering a special checklist that contains various questions about the condition of the lawn. This collects various information, such as the shape of the lawn or whether there are large trees that can block the signal, which is crucial for whether Navimow will have the best performance on your lawn. "In any case, for an optimal user experience, consumers are advised to complete the checklist before making their purchase decision," explains George Ren. The checklist will be published on all Segway channels from around mid-May. The first 1,000 customers who purchase a Navimow before July 31 will automatically become part of the Navimow Pilot User Program and, in addition to the robotic lawnmower, receive a free antenna extension kit for an even better user experience.
"The first Navimow robotic lawnmowers are already on their way to Europe, and we are experiencing high demand. Therefore, more units will follow in September – ready for the 2023 season," informs George Ren, General Manager at Segway BU.
"Our goal is to provide users with labor-saving and intelligent solutions through robotic technology," he concludes.
